Camellias
When landscaping your garden, camellias provide a beautiful and versatile shrub that can be used for hedging as well as feature plants. Flora Nursery has specialised in growing camellias since 1960. Their passion for camellias has spanned over three generations, as their hard-earnt knowledge is passed on from one generation to the next.
There are two key camellia varieties; the camellia sasanqua and the camellia japonica. When choosing which camellia would be best for your garden, here are the key points to note.
Camellia Sasanqua
- Flowers: Single, semi double and double flowers available in the Sasanqua variants. It does tend to have a smaller flower than the Japonicas.
- Blooms:Autumn to winter.
- Shrub:Will have evergreen leaves all year round.
- Sun Requirements:Full Sun to Semi Shade.
- Soil Requirements:Well drained areas.
- Growth:Most variants grow faster than the Japonica, making them ideal as a hedging plant.
- Best for:Hedging and feature plants within the garden.
Camellia Japonica
- Flowers: Single, semi double and double flowers available in the Japonica variants. It does tend to have a larger flower than the Sasanquas.
